Sciatica/Lumbar Radiculopathy
What is Sciatica?
- Sciatica is a common condition that occurs when the spinal nerve in the lumbar spine is being compressed. Compressions most commonly occur by a disc herniation / protrusion. When pain is traveling down the sciatic nerve, it is commonly called sciatica. Examination and Identification of the root cause is necessary in order to provide the correct treatment option. Other conditions that can mimic the symptoms of sciatica include: Piriformis Syndrome and Sacral Iliac Joint Dysfunctions.
Common Symptoms:
- Pain usually worse in the Morning
- Tightness in Hamstrings
- May have started as only Low Back Pain
- Sharp local pain in Low Back
- Sharp Shooting pain down the leg
- Pain that can feel like a dull ache, tingling, or burning sensation
- Pain that's usually on one side of the body
- Pain that can start slowly and worsen after sitting/ Bending/ Lifting / Twisting
- Pain that can get worse when sneezing, coughing, or laughing
- Numbness or weakness in the legs, pelvis, upper thighs, or bottom
